Hope Clinic Launches 340B Drug Discount Program to
Provide Low Cost Medications to Ellis County Families

Waxahachie, TX and Bensalem, PA. Hope Clinic and healthcare technology company SUNRx today announced a new partnership to provide discounted prescription drugs to families in the Ellis County area.

“The downturn in the economy has had a tremendous impact on our community,” said Dr. Mackie Owens, Hope Clinic’s CEO.   “We have seen an increase in hypertension, diabetes, mental illnesses, and other conditions that can be controlled with proper care and medications.  Our new drug discount program will help countless families afford their prescriptions, manage their illnesses, and lead healthy lives.”

Hope Clinic provides internal medicine, dental, prenatal, mental health care, and social outreach and health education services to families in Ellis County and the surrounding areas. Established in 2000 as the Ellis County Coalition for Health Options, today Hope clinic provides quality, compassionate care and services to more than 4,000 patients annually.

Hope Clinic provides a service that isn't available anywhere else in Ellis County – a medical home for all families, regardless of their ability to pay. For those who have no health insurance and do not qualify for other assistance, the Clinic offers a sliding fee schedule based on family size and income.  Hope Clinic also serves the underinsured, as well as those with Medicaid, CHIP, Medicare, and private coverage.

Hope Clinic patients are not unlike those nationwide who struggle to afford medications.  According to a recent study by the Kaiser Foundation, more than a quarter of Americans said they have not filled a prescription because of the expense.  Nearly one in five said they cut pills in half or skipped doses in an attempt to save money.

Hope Clinic’s new 340B discount program will significantly reduce the cost of medications, so these families can follow their doctor’s orders, get well, and stay healthy.

Created to expand access to affordable medications to low income and underserved populations, the 340B Program provides medications discounted 60% below retail prices through qualified community health centers and hospitals.  Despite the need, many community health centers have limited 340B programs – or none at all – due to the program’s complexity.  SUNRx’s fully automated solution helps health centers like Hope Clinic manage 340B programs, reduce paperwork, and provide more effective patient care.

This new drug discount is just one of several initiatives Hope Clinic is undertaking to improve care in Ellis County.  The health center now offers extended office hours:  7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Fridays.  Beginning in September, patients will be able to make same day appointments and receive walk-in care.

“It is a blessing and honor to serve the families of Ellis County,” said Dr. Mackie.  “We encourage them to visit us to receive care from our wonderful staff and save money on their medications.”

“When families cannot afford their medications, they are unable to follow their doctor’s orders and their conditions often worsen,” said SUNRx CEO Tim Liebmann.  “We have dedicated our company to working with organizations like Hope Clinic to improve access to affordable medications, improve healthcare in our communities, and help families in need get back to work and school and on their feet.”
